R.K. Redding Construction is well-known for its construction management and general contracting work and has worked in seven states over the years. With construction deemed as an essential business in Georgia, R.K. Redding Construction (RKR) has been able to continue its operation during the COVID-19 pandemic and is fully operational while transitioning to normalcy.
Of course, RKR put precautionary measures in place to ensure the safety of its employees and clients. For example, before entering the office, employees had their temperatures checked for fever and were asked about any symptoms they may have.
“Fortunately, COVID-19 has not significantly affected R.K. Redding Construction’s operations during this once-in-a-century pandemic,” said Keith Redding, President of RKR. “We never had to send our employees home, and everyone still received weekly income. None of our workers have had to be sent to a doctor. We are certainly praying for other companies in Georgia who were affected.”
When many organizations had to close their facilities or adjust operations, RKR has been busy building schools in Polk County, Paulding County and other Georgia school systems.
“We have several educational facilities on our project list. With school campuses less congested, as you can imagine, we have been able to accomplish significant construction projects during this time,” added Redding.
RKR did experience some delays with a few West Georgia area manufacturing projects where the plants were briefly shut down due to a few workers with the coronavirus, but those situations were quickly rectified.
“Fortunately, our staff did not experience any related symptoms,” said Redding. “And we made sure that our subcontractors were not ill before we sent them back to those sites.”
RKR is also proud to be building Southeastrans’ new corporate headquarters in Villa Rica in between Tanner Medical Center and the library.
“Southeastrans provides comprehensive administration and related services to Georgia’s medical and HMO clients. This will be another building within the medical area in Villa Rica,” added Redding.
RKR earned two prestigious Build Georgia Awards from the Associated General Contractors of Georgia for outstanding achievements on the Lassiter High School Replacement Gymnasium and the Marietta College & Career Academy.
In addition, 14 RKR project supervisors received the Ron Amerson Supervisors Safety Awards this year, which are given for achieving safety excellence on job sites. The awards are established on safety incidence rates for certain individual supervisors based on actual man-hours that are zero lost-time accidents.
All of these supervisors are on sites for different types of work and various jobs including cement, windows, roofs and more. Contractors are also skilled in management while overlooking and supervising vendors that are hired for specific types of trades. Safety directors are trained for rules in the classes from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
The following RKR supervisors were honored for their work in 2019: Matt Bryant, Derrick Buchanan, Kevin Burnum, Cooper Cochran, Tyler Eley, John Fincher, Ed Hanson, Micah Howard, Jason McCord, Jim Millsap, Brandon Rayburn, Doug Rooks, Jason Rooks and Kevin Saxon.
“The team at RKR remains encouraged by the opportunities before us. I know these last couple of months have been difficult. However, our clients have been resilient and creative so we could continue to work, while ensuring the safety of their employees and our team. For RKR, we are back to business as usual,” said Redding about the current business environment as people transition back to normalcy.
